For English I did an analysis the the original William Lynch speech, it was a speech that was said to be given in 1712 on the James River by a slave master from the British West Indies. In the speech he talks about his techniques and his practices to effectively control his slaves. With the main focus on making an effective, efficient, and profitable system to control slaves. I then wrote an essay taking some of the ideas and ideals that Lynch was trying to push to the slave owners on the James River. And then took those and put them into context in 2020, how they apply and can be seen today 300 years later. Primarily in day to day life and the criminal justice system in the United States.
[ESSAY] |
For my art portion, I started off by 3d printing a model of Andrew Young then created a silicone mold of the model so I can cast the same bust in resin. The first pour of resin i did as a test was a simple black dye, just to make sure everything was correct. Then I made one with the outer "shell" made of resin with a copper powder mixed into it, when rubbed with steel wool would produce a metallic luster and look as a normal metal statue would. I also wrote a short essay about Andrew Young's accomplishments and the importance of his work especially with the civil rights movement, and why I think he is worthy of having a stature created of him.
